Norman Gail Shellberg, 92, of Windsor, CO died with family by his side on the 18th of December, 2022.

Gail was born on November 29th, 1930 on a farm near Griswold, Iowa, the son of Edwin Samuel and Alice Catherine (Quinn) Shellberg. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Griswold High School in 1948. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1952 with a commission in the U.S. Army Artillery. A 2-year assignment followed during the Korean War at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Gail was United in Marriage to Shirley Ann Chadwick on September 12th, 1953 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Following his military assignment, he began his career with the Iowa State University Cooperative Extension Service. He farmed with his father for a period of years before moving to Colorado in 1968 for employment with Colorado State University Cooperative Extension. His career continued here until his retirement in 1990.

Gail served several key assignments during his Cooperative Extension career and contributed immeasurably to the success of the organization as it approached the 1990's. Not only was he active in Colorado, but he represented Colorado well as he served in regional and national capacities with both Epsilon Sigma Phi and the Journal of Extension board. He served as national president of Epsilon Sigma Phi and later was named Executive Secretary/Treasurer maintaining the National Office 1990-1995. He was recognized with several Distinguished Service awards.

Gail loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He liked to fish and camp. He received much enjoyment from feeding and watering the birds, especially the goldfinches.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sons, Jeremy Chad (stillborn twin) and Michael Gail; sister, Nancy Suzanne and brother, Thomas Edwin.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Shirley Ann Shellberg of Windsor, Colorado; sons Mark Douglas and partner Brenda of Lamar, Colorado; Brian Hugh and wife Lena of Lamar, Colorado; David Edwin and wife Natasha of Boise, Idaho; Dana Paul and wife Peggy of Windsor, Colorado; and Jerome Kelly and wife Dawn of Prosper, Texas; daughter Barbara Ann and husband Frank Mages of Spearville, Kansas. Brother Jerry and Wife Barbara of La Vista, Nebraska; and sister-in-law Roberta of Griswold, Iowa; brothers-in-law, David Chadwick of Dallas, TX, Daniel Chadwick and wife Bibiana of Cedar Rapids, IA and sister-in-law, Sandra Jane Heil of Port Angeles, WA. He had 11 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Catholic Church on February 10th, 2023 at 11:00am. Burial with Military Rites will take place after the service at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Reception will be held at Resthaven Reception center after the burial. Allnutt Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Epsilon Sigma Phi Development Fund.
