Lola Irene Bingham Sperra was born January 12, 1931 in Holly, Colorado to Lyle and Lula Bingham. Lola was the second child of Lyle and Lula. Her brother Harvey helped welcome her into the home. The Bingham family moved several times while Lola was growing up. Some of the places they lived were Arkansas, Missouri, California, Kansas, Lamar, CO and Holly, CO. While they lived in Lamar, Lola’s dad Lyle was employed by the city of Lamar. One job he had was caretaker for the Willow Creek Park and the family lived in the rock house there at the park. Lola has entertained family and friends with stories of fun, mischievous antics she was involved in. It was always a different story; no one ever heard the same story twice. It always started off the same… “I remember the time when…” She had a wonderful sense of humor as well.
It was while the Bingham family lived in Lamar; she met and married Chester S. Sperra.
They were married on May 7, 1950. Chester farmed south of Granada. Together they raised five children. Lola was very involved with her children’s schooling, being active in PTA and other scholastic events.
Later in life Lola started attending the SOS dances. Lola really loved music and dancing. Lola also enjoyed playing dominos, crocheting, sewing, working crossword puzzles, working jigsaw puzzles, traveling and collecting salt and pepper shakers. Lola had well over a hundred sets of salt and pepper shakers. Lola had traveled to many different countries and had even gone to Hawaii twice. Lola has been on several cruises, and Lola has also visited many places in Colorado while she volunteered at the Colorado Welcome Center.
Lola passed away on September 14, 2023 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side at the age of 92.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester Sperra, daughter Mollie Sperra, her brother Harvey E. Bingham, sister-in-law Dorothy Bingham, and brother-in-law’s Leroy and Edward Sperra.
