Jose Damian “Opie” Vigil, Jr.
A Mass of Christian burial for longtime Lamar resident, Jose Damian Vigil, Jr., affectionately known to his family and friends as Opie, was held at 10:00AM on Friday, January 15, 2016 at the St. Francis de Sales/Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Reverend Stephen Olamolu as celebrant. A rosary service was held prior to the mass at the church at 9:15AM with Deacon Allan Medina reciting. Burial followed at Fairmount Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 1:00PM until 5:00 P.M. at the Peacock Family Chapel.
Jose was born on May 23, 1939 at Mora, New Mexico to Jose Damian and Antonia (Lopez) Vigil, Sr. and passed away on January 11, 2016 at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 76 with his family by his side.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and one sister.
Jose is survived by his wife, Mary Vigil of the family home in Lamar; daughters, Diane Vigil, Charlotte (Jason) Comstock all of Lamar, Linda Vigil of Colorado Springs, CO and Arlene (Don) Vigil-Snover of Lamar; grandchildren, Robert Benabides, Jr.; Christian (Kayla) Dulac; Shaelynn Silvey; Kaeley Silvey; Alyssa (Jr.) Maldanado; Danica (Anthony) Fleshman; Madison Silvey and Alexa Comstock. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Traygen Benabides; Jace Benabides; Blake Dulac and Aiden Maldanado; sisters, Elaine Romero, Annie Vigil, Syria Romero, Eleanor (Filimon) Martinez, Delia (Augustine) Gallegos and Julia (Gilbert) Vigil as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the John Zay Guest House in Colorado Springs, Colorado either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
