James Jacob Brogger

           A Memorial service for longtime Lamar resident, James J. Brogger was held at 2:00PM on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Roy Gueswel officiating.

           

Per James’ request cremation took place and there will be no visitation.

James was born on June 24, 1932 at Mountain Lakes, Minnesota to Neil M. and Wilma T. (Fowler) Brogger and passed away on August 31, 2013 at his home in Lamar with his family by his side at the age of 81.

Jim was raised in Minnesota and the Arvilla, ND until he graduated High School. He then went on to graduate from North Dakota Ag College (i.e.; North Dakota State University) in Fargo, with an Agriculture Engineering Degree. He married the love of his life on November 20, 1954 and they moved to Colorado together.

Jim started his own Civil Engineering firm while living in Denver, and traveled all over eastern Colorado doing water systems, treatment of plants and low income housing projects. He then expanded his work to include Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona and California. He later retired from engineering, after having his own firm for 25+ years, and started business for the mountain ski lodges in Colorado.

Jim has traveled extensively across the United States and has taken his family on many of his trips. He loved life, his wife and children dearly. He was the treasurer of the Zion Lutheran Church for many years and enjoyed a great relationship with God. He and Barbara opened their home and their hearts to many different family members, friends and even total strangers over the years. Jim will be sorely missed by all his family and friends and admired for all his helpful work, friendliness and love.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years; Barbara Elaine (Mandt) Brogger, his parents, brother; Steven Brogger and grandson; Jimmie Brogger.

James is survived by his children; Mark (Gail) Brogger of Houston, TX, Kent (Kim) Brogger of Elizabeth, CO and Mary (Leo) Shy of Lamar, seven grandchildren; Emily, Pamela, Pate, Jessica, Randy and Tyler. He is also survived by his nine great-grandchildren; two brothers; John and Richard Brogger, brother in-law Norman(Audry) Mandt and Richard(Yvonne) Mandt of Northwood, ND; his adopted daughter Barbara(Brad) Butler of Grand Junction as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice and/or Remember Foundation either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
