Ella V. Kisamore
A celebration of life memorial service for longtime Lamar resident, Ella V. Kisamore will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Lamar Christian Church with Ian Blacker officiating.
Per Ellie’s request cremation has taken place and her remains will be buried with her mother, Grace in Pennsylvania at a later date.
Mrs. Ella V. Kisamore, daughter of the late Paul William Roby and Grace Irene (Crusan) Roby was born in the family home on February 4, 1948 in Bolivar, Pennsylvania and passed away on January 22, 2019 at her home in Lamar, Colorado with her loving family by her side at the age of 70.She was the fourth child born to this union. Ellie attended public schools in New Florence, Pennsylvania, where she was a scholar student. She was known to have a beautiful singing voice which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Samuel Ray Kisamore on the 22nd of November on a snowy Thanksgiving Eve. Ella was waiting for her mother, Grace, to arrive with her wedding shoes. Grace was caught on the Pennsylvania Turnpike by a severe auto accident. After waiting as long as they could, Ella was married to her loving spouse in her bare feet.
Ella was a hard worker and kept the family home in order while her husband was an over-the-road truck driver. She raised four children with a strict and firm hand. Ella kept the cleanest home in the entire Arkansas Valley. You could eat off her floors. She was occasionally seen throwing a few dishes should the four kids not do what she wanted. Ella was the manager of the Lamar Truck Plaza for many years and this is where she earned the title, Miss Ellie. After this, she dropped the formality of her name and went strictly by “Ellie”.
After the kids grew, left the house, married and had kids, Ellie became the softest grandma. Unlike her motherhood, there were no more family dishes thrown. Instead she began scolding her kids for being too hard on her grandchildren. And then there were the “smoking years” where she was occasionally known to have one lit cigarette in the ashtray and light another in the next room. Half of the grandchildren remember the “smoking Ellie” while the second half never even knew she smoked. There are many jokes about the yellowing photos from the smoking years and the whiter ones during her later non-smoking years.
Ellie was proud of her grandchildren, her home adorned with photos over the many years. Then came the greatgrandchildren and she softened even more. It was often asked where the “real Ellie” had gone. Many giggles were had by Ellie and her great grandbabies and she was known to scold the grandchildren now for being too firm to her great grandbabies.
Ellie fought a long 8-year battle with kidney failure. She was triumphant in surviving the disease to see the rest of her babies grow. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her growing family. Ellie is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Sam. She leaves behind her children, Teri (Philip) Hecker, of Dallas, Texas, Bill (Leilanie) Kisamore, Bob (Kelly) Kisamore, Marci (Matt) Amrine all of Lamar, Colorado, also sons Sammy Jr, Vince and daughter Tammy all of Pennsylvania. Ellie leaves behind her brother-in-law Edward Laskoski of Pennyslvania, her brother, Paul (Patricia) Roby of South Carolina, her sister, Dianne (Tom) Brant of Pennsylvania, sister Cyndi (Clint) Greer and little brother Tom (Dena) both of North Carolina. Ellie will be missed by 18 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Richard, her sister Ruth Laskoski, and great-grandson Beau Michael Fleshman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
