Clarence Howard Davis
A Graveside service for longtime Bayfield resident; Clarence H. Davis will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield, Colorado.
Clarence was born on February 7, 1925 at Coolidge, Kansas to Howard and Lily Davis and passed away on May 9, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, Colorado with his family by his side at the age of 87.
Clarence was one of nine children, he grew up in Coolidge and attended Coolidge schools. When World War II started, he dropped out of school to enlist in the Army but was told to go back and farm because that was important for the war effort.
In his late teens and early 20's, Mr. Davis worked on the family farm-harvesting wheat and milo and tending to cattle, sheep and race horses. The Davis family moved to a ranch on Butte Creek on the eastern plains of Colorado. Mr. Davis continued to tend cattle and farm grains.
He met his future wife, Donna Davis, after moving to Colorado. The couple married on January 2, 1948 in Raton, N.M.
In 1967, the Davis family moved to a ranch in the Durango area on the Florida River, where he raised hay and cattle for the next 13 years. In 1979, Mr.Davis retired, and the family moved to Bayfield.
Throughout his life, Mr. Davis enjoyed four-wheeling, hunting, horseback riding, reading and playing and watching basketball.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna Lee Davis of the family home in Bayfield, CO, daughter; DeEtte (Russ) Hobden of Lamar, sons; Denten (Debbie) Davis, Michael (Brenda) Davis all of Bayfield, CO, Leland (Rene`) Davis of Rock Springs, WY, Dallas Davis of Ignacio, CO and Darin (Renee) Davis of Elizabeth, CO. He is also survived by his sister; Edna Belle Cook of Johnson, KS, seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and a host of friends.
