Charles "Bob" Robert Cornelius

Charles “Bob” Robert Cornelius, 89, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011 at his La Junta home. Bob was born on August 11, 1921 in Rocky Ford to Charles & Leota (Gerbing) Cornelius. He married Florence Sterrett on May 28, 1944 in Syracuse, Kansas; she preceded him in death on December 5, 1996.
Bob graduated from Lamar High School class of 1939. He attended University of Denver where he played football. Bob served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a Flight Instructor. He was the owner and operator of Cornelius Transfer & Storage from 1946 – 1965 and also owned and operated C & C Steel from 1963 until his retirement in 1985.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Candy (Tom) Armstrong of Nashville, TN; their children, Jenni Lynn Doe, and Jeremy (Kim) Doe; great-granddaughter, Catie; daughter, Chris Hilton of Centennial, CO; her children, Becky Hilton, and Jeff Hilton; great-grandson, Michael; son, Alan (Sherry) Cornelius of La Junta; their children, Trevor Cornelius; Chad (Sadie) Cornelius; and Derek Cornelius; and great-granddaughter, Liberty; sister-in-law, Ellen Cornelius; nephews, Bob Cornelius, Ron Cornelius and Larry Cornelius.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Florence R. “Bobbie” Cornelius, nephew, Lynn Cornelius, brothers, Gerbing “Red” & William “Bill” Cornelius.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta with Evangelist Danny Aragon officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 3rd from 5 to 7 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel in La Junta. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta with Military Honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team.
