A Funeral Mass for longtime Granada resident, Augustine M. Rivera, was held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 23, 2012 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Holly with Reverend Charlie Sena as Celebrant. A rosary service was held prior to the Mass at 9:30 AM also at the church with Deacon Allan Medina reciting.
Visitation for Augustine was held from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Peacock Family Chapel.
Interment of ashes with full Military Honors under the auspices of the Lamar VFW Post #3621 and the American Legion Post #71 was held at 10:00AM on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Hillside Cemetery in Granada, CO.
Augustine was born on May 5, 1921 at San Pedros, Coah, Mexico to Julian and Gerarda (Ortega) Rivera and passed away on April 17, 2012 at the Holly Nursing Care Center at the age of 90.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Nicholas “Nikie” Rivera, daughter Ruth “Cuca” Rivera sisters; Rita Gomez, Mary DeLaVirgen her brother, Joe Medina, sister-in-law Jenny Medina and his stepfather Luz Medina.
Augustine is survived by his children; Antonio Rivera, Mary (Mike) Ramirez, Delores Semana all of Carson, CA, sister; Martina (Ramon) Pena of Granada, brothers; Marcello Medina of Lamar and Paul Ray (Martha) Medina of Granada. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and a host of friends.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
