Alice Engelhardt
A Graveside service for longtime Wild Horse and Eads resident, Alice Engelhardt was held at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Kit Carson Cemetery with Reverend Nancy Peacock officiating.
Alice was born on October 18, 1919 at Orion, Kansas to Daniel and Mary (Banks) Kelly and passed away on April 1, 2013 at Weisbrod Memorial Nursing Home in Eads, CO at the age of 93.
Alice completed her schooling in Grove County, Kansas where she lived all her school years. After school she worked at home and helping a neighbor with a sick spouse, cleaning house and fixing meals.
On March 23, 1941 Alice was married to Lester Darwin Engelhardt. Alice and Lester lived their lives in Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado. They settled in Wild Horse, Colorado in 1945. After Lester’s death, Alice moved to Eads and lived there until her death.
While in Wild Horse, Alice worked as a mail carrier between the post office and depot, cooking at several Kit Carson restaurants, and a substitute bus driver.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester Engelhardt in 1989 and her parents.
Alice is survived by her children; James (Cleta) Engelhardt of Haswell, CO, Vinton (Mary) Engelhardt of Eads, CO and Gladys (Leroy) Evans of Elizabeth, CO, 7 grandchildren – Teresa Olrich of Albuquerque, NM; Clint (Robin) Lay of Elbert, CO; Cindy Pittman of Haswell; Jeff (Billi) Engelhardt of Lamar; Scotty Engelhardt of Haswell; David (Shelli) Engelhardt of Eads; and Tena (Troy) Joy of Canyon, TX; by 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Beulah (Kelly) Dohm of Quinter, KS as well as numerous other family and a host of friends.
