Robert Jensen

A Graveside Service for lifelong Granada area resident, Robert Carl Jensen was held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11:00AM at the Sunnyslope Cemetery in Bristol, Colorado with Ian Blacker of the Lamar Christian Church officiating.

Per Robert’s request there was no public visitation.

Robert was born on May 2, 1950 at Lamar, Colorado to Carl and Gladys (Saquire) Jensen and passed away on March 3, 2010 at his home with his family by his side at the age of 59.

He is preceded in death by his brother; Dale Jensen and his niece Trish Schomaker.

Robert is survived by his wife; Tanya Jensen of the family home in Granada, children; Eric (Lindsey) Jensen, Ryan (Carrie) Jensen, and Tracy Jensen all of Granada, as well as his grandchildren; Tre, Austin, Shae, Tressa, Kiley and Jayden. He is also survived by his parents; Carl and Gladys Jensen of Pueblo, Colorado, brothers; David (Rita) Jensen, Gary (Kris) Jensen, Kenneth (Linda) Jensen and Arthur (Gale) Jensen all of Denver, Colorado, numerous other family and a host of friends also survive.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Robert Jensen Memorial Fund for Youth Aviation Encouragement in care of the funeral home office.

Robert attended Granada grade school and high school, where he excelled in track and field events; holding school records that never can be broken. In high school Robert met Tanya Vagher whom he tried to win over and impress by his daily motorcycle trips by her parent's house. His children wondered how this was achieved, knowing he never got a brake from constantly hoeing the sugar beets. The Vagher residence soon became soon became his second home.

After graduating high school, Robert turned down a track scholarship to be close to Tanya and attended two years at Lamar Community College. He started farming the family farm which he later purchased. Robert and Tanya married September 4, 1971. Fiver years later on Robert's birthday their first son, Eric was born. Later Ryan and Tracy joined to what he called 'his team'. Over the years the team grew to include two daughters-in-law, Lindsey and Carrie, and six grandchildren; Tre, Austin, Shae, Tressa, Kyley and Jayden whom were the light of his life.

Through his knowledge and passion for farming, their operation grew from 160 acres to over 5,000 acres. His love for a challenge kept him always researching and seeking technological advancements to improve upon; never afraid to take the necessary risks to grow and succeed.

He made many friends in business and loved and treated his employees like family. He had many hobbies; drag racing his 68 Dodge Dart, which he later sacrificed to be able to continue farming; motorcross racing; and model airplane flying, which lead to the purchase of his dream plane and attaining his pilot's license.

Robert never knew a stranger and traveling with him was always an adventure and included new experiences. He loved to haggle and get the best deal possible, be it a snickers bar or John Deere Tractor. Always a kid at heart - he had a unique sense of humor, contagious laugh and always could keep a straight face while pulling his pranks.

Robert had a strong faith  and fought his illness with humor, grace and dignity.
