Robert Darrel Ice Memorial services was held on Saturday July 14, 2007 at 10:30 AM at the Holly United Methodist Church for Darrel Ice. Full Military honors by Fort Carson Honor Guard, was held at the Holly Cemetery following Darrel's memorial service.
Darrel Ice was born June 27, 1924 in Denver, Colorado to Thomas A. and Ila B. (Massey) Ice. Darrel passed away on July 3, 2007 at his home in Holly, CO with his family by his side. He attended school in Wiley Colorado and graduated in 1942. He began his service with his country on November 25, 1942 when he enlisted with the United States Navy. He served in the Pacific on the Submarine Bream. Darrel was depth charged March 15, 1945 for eight hours. Then he was discharged on January 16, 1946. He was out until December 1947, when he reenlisted into the Navy. While he was at home he worked at various jobs, including the Denver Alfalfa Milling and Products Company. After reenlisting he served on oil tanker USS Platte until returning to the submarine service. He served on the Bumper, Bang, Dace, and Rasher Carbonero. Darrel was selected for Navy’s Nuclear Power School in 1955. Upon completion of training he was assigned to the USS Swordfish (SSN-579) and served on it until 1961, when he returned to Idaho for shore duty at the nuclear school.  He then transferred to USS plunger in 1963 he served aboard her until retirement from the US Navy on January 10, 1964. Retired as EMCM (E-9) Navy’s highest enlisted rate. Darrel moved to Holly after retiring from the Navy and worked for Gerald Golden and the Holly School District, before going to work at Ft. Lyon’s VA Medical Center in May 1967. He worked as an electrician. He then retired from Federal Civil Service in 1985. Darrel is a life member of VFW post 4281, 44 year member of Fleet Reserve Association, a member of Mile High Branch, member of the Upper Arkansas Military Retiree Council, and a member of the USS Bang “Gang” 
Darrel is survived by his wife, Nolamae of the family home, sons, Blaine Ice of Holly, Kim and Tammie Ice of Rhinelander, WI, a daughter Sherrill Ice of Lakewood, CO, grandson, Logan Ice, granddaughter, Megan and Ryan Rossing, step grandson, Cody, step granddaughter, Jordan all of Rhinelander, WI. He is also survived by four brothers, Roger and Roberta Ice of Rye, CO, Cordell and Wilma Ice of Pueblo, CO, Ronald and Gayle Ice of Alcalde, NM, Thomas and Thelma Ice, Jr. of Thornton, and a sister, Jerrie Merrifield of Tucson, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. and Ila B. (Massey) Ice and his sister, Leila Gleaves.
