Lillie L. Groomer
A Memorial Celebration was held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Lamar Christian Church with Ian Blacker officiating.
Per Lillie’s wishes cremation took place at the Arkansas Valley Crematory in LaJunta, Colorado and there was no public viewing.
Lillie was born on April 14, 1916 at Ogallala, Nebraska to Lewis and Helen (Hogland) Harris and passed away at Juniper Village in Lamar on November 28, 2008 at the age 92.
Lillie had 10 brothers and sisters. In 1920 the family moved to Sheridan Lake, Colorado where she attended school. It was there that she met William "Bill" Groomer. They were united in marriage on December 31, 1933 and to this union were born 8 children; Edward, Lewis, Tillie, Darlene, Ralph, Gladys, Eloise and Margaret. The family moved to different locations during their early years but eventually moved to Lamar in 1950. Lillie and Bill were divorced in 1961 following 28 years of marriage.
Lillie worked as a cook at different cafes in Lamar and raised her children. Then in 1974 she moved to Pueblo and worked at Parkview Hospital as a cook until she retired in 1982.
In 1989 she moved back to Lamar joining our church in November of 1989. Lillie was baptized in September of 1989. Lillie enjoyed all activities and cooking for different things at the church. She was an active member until her illness got the best of her.
In 2003 she went to live with her daugther, Eloise and great grandson, Domanick. In 2005, Lillie became a resident of Juniper Village in Lamar until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Groomer and her brothers, Auld, Chet, Roy, Buck and Bud Harris. Sisters; Gladys and Helen Harris and daughters Tillie Kenner, Gladys Miller and Darlene Culberth, son-in-laws, Curley Culberth, Gerb Cornelius and Bud Thombs.
Lillie is survived by her children; Edward (Ina) Groomer of Wiley, CO, Eloise Cornelius of Lamar and special great grandson, Domanick, Lewis (Betty) Groomer of Arkansas, Ralph (Roberta) Groomer of Springfield, CO, and Margaret (Randy) Richardson of Sheridan Lake, CO. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren as well as her sisters; Edith Kelley of California, Viola Young of Nevada and Maxine Tillie of Arkansas and many friends.
