Sylvia met George Bogusch when he returned to Lamar with his infant daughter, Nita following his wife’s death in 1937. Following a one year courtship, Sylvia and George were married on October 7, 1939 at Las Animas, Colorado. They returned to his farm where they made their home until early spring of 1985. Sylvia worked in the field, became a mother to Nita and made a home for their family near Sand Creek. Sylvia was a member of the Lamar United Methodist Church as well as a devoted and faithful member of the Lamar Vaqueros Saddle Club where she was an excellent horseman, attending and participating in all saddle club functions such as rodeos, horse shows and overnight outings. Online Condolences | | Dear Nita Beth and family, I am so sorry that we have lost our Sylvia. My fond remembrances include our wonderful family gatherings at Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners over the years. Working the cattle, and Sylvia's delicious branding meals are all part of my fond memories of her and George, and the family ranch. I remember George and Sylvia riding in the parades , with the Vaqueros, and Sylvia riding with the Vaqueros Quadrille team. These are all such fond memories and know that now Sylvia is once again re-united with George and her beloved horses. I am very sorry not to be able to attend the service. With Sincere Sympathy. Bill Smith , and Karen and Willie | | Nita Beth and family: My sympathies on the loss of your mother and grandmother. I have only good memories of Aunt Sylvia and wish I could be there. You mentioned her riding and I always remember her wearing her jeans and working outside. I still remember the big white turkey gobbler that used to think I was the meal when I visited. Mom has never let me forget her letting me eat the whole package of hot dogs and all the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut I could eat, which made me sick for two days! Apparently my best memories are associated with her cooking! Mom says Aunt Sylvia cooked the best pinto beans, ever. The last time I visited her we looked at family pictures, grandmother Smith's quilts and ate a mean pot roast. We only disagreed on two things..her trying to make me eat rhubarb pie and that old chime clock that kept me up all night! :) She did concede to house it in the garage while I was there! She also took me out to the north cemetery and showed me the grave of the old gun fighter that took care of her and dad after school sometimes. It is too bad that we can't record our lives as we go so that the younger ones could appreciate it. It is the little things that mean a lot when thinking of someone. She had a good heart and a ready smile. May she rest in the peace that she deserves. Beverley D.(Smith) Ferrell |
